North Korea was very heavily influenced by the Soviet Union, which was dictated by Joseph Stalin. Kim Il Sung was designated Premier of Korea by the USSR due to his extensive knowledge of Soviet politics and communism. He had gained this knowledge by spending some of his life in Russia and China. The Communist Party and the Worker's Party of Korea united into one party, creating the most powerful political party in North Korea.
